Chapter 1-10: Battle Against the Orc Horde
Change: The king’s age has been increased.
According to Appraisal, the group appeared to be a horde of Orcs.
Orcs were monsters also known as pig-men or boar-men.
Although they were called “men,” they basically looked like pigs or boars walking upright on two legs, with only their hands resembling those of humans.
Their meat was edible, and because it tasted even better than ordinary pork, it was commonly sold at butcher shops in towns.
Tenma placed Shiroumaru into the basket with Slalin, stored the entire basket inside his bag, then used Skyflight to move to a position where he could look down on the Orc horde.
The Orcs were gathered on a rocky hill some distance from the forest, in an area shaped almost like a valley.
They appeared to be attacking a carriage.
There were six humans fighting against forty-three Orcs, while another group of six Orcs seemed to be circling around separately.
The six humans had their backs against a rock wall and were fighting while surrounding the carriage, but the Orcs’ superior numbers were gradually overwhelming them.
(These Orcs are far too organized. At this rate, they’re in trouble!)
Tenma landed on top of the carriage.
“I’ll help!”
He pulled ten magic stones from his Magic Bag and threw them between the six people and the Orcs.
Both sides were startled by Tenma’s sudden appearance, but what happened next shocked them even more.
From the places where the magic stones landed, ten stone golems roughly two meters tall rose from the ground.
“Golems! Protect these people and attack any enemies that come near them!”
After giving the order, Tenma cast the light-attribute healing spell High Heal on all six people.
The man who appeared to hold the highest status among them tried to thank Tenma, but Tenma cut him off.
“There are six Orcs trying to circle around from above. I’ll take care of them first.”
He then used Skyflight to soar up to the top of the cliff.
“Use this chance to regroup!”
The man who seemed to be the highest-ranking among them shouted, and the other five pulled spears from the carriage and began thrusting at the Orcs from behind the golems.
About three minutes later, Tenma returned to the top of the cliff.
By then, seven or eight Orcs had fallen, and the battle had reached a temporary stalemate.
Just as Tenma was about to descend, he noticed one individual among the Orc horde that was even larger than the golems.
“Is that an Orc King?”
An Orc King was the highest-ranking species among Orcs.
Ordinary Orcs were generally ranked from D to C-, while an Orc King was considered C+ to B rank.
What made them particularly troublesome was their ability to strengthen the Orcs under their command by roughly one rank.
“Gugya! Gugyagyagyagyaaa!”
The Orc King let out a roar.
Immediately, the other Orcs began attacking with even greater ferocity.
Tenma pulled a sword from his Magic Bag.
The tip was double-edged, in what was known as the Kogarasu-maru style. The blade was about seventy centimeters long, had very little curvature, and possessed neither a guard nor a conventional hilt. Instead, rope had been wrapped around the grip.
Tenma cast strengthening magic on both himself and the sword, then leapt down directly in front of the Orc King.
“Pugya!”
“Fuga!”
The Orcs near where he landed were cut apart one after another.
Wind Cutters fired from Tenma’s left hand sliced through their torsos, while sharp strikes from the sword in his right hand severed their heads.
The Orcs fell into confusion.
The Orc King, however, lived up to its title and immediately launched an attack at Tenma.
The weapon it swung was the lower half of one of the Orcs Tenma had just cut apart.
The Orc King grinned hideously, convinced that a blow backed by its tremendous strength would turn the enemy before it into a lump of meat.
That grin became its final memory.
Tenma stepped forward into the descending blow.
With a single diagonal slash, he cut through the Orc King from the side of its neck down toward its right flank, severing the attacking arm along with it.
The Orc King’s corpse fell at Tenma’s feet, the grotesque smile still frozen on its face.
The surviving Orcs stared in shock.
So did the six humans standing behind the golems.
Before the Orcs could recover from their confusion, Tenma moved quickly, cutting them down while firing Earth Needles.
By the time the Orcs regained their senses, their numbers had already been reduced to less than half.
From that point onward, it became a one-sided hunt.
Unable to mount any meaningful resistance, the remaining Orcs were completely wiped out.
As Tenma was storing the Orc corpses inside his Dimension Bag, one of the men approached him.
“You have my gratitude for saving us from such danger. Thanks to you, our losses were kept to a minimum.”
He was the best-dressed man among the six.
Tenma instinctively used Appraisal.
Name: Alex von Blumeil Clastin
Age: 47
Race: Human
Title: King of the Kingdom of Clastin
“The king?”
At Tenma’s words, the five men other than the king immediately became more alert.
One of them, a particularly serious-looking man with short silver hair, dark eyes, a lean muscular build, and a height of about 180 centimeters, moved as though to place himself between Tenma and the king.
“Enough. Stand down. He does not appear to bear us any ill will.”
The king told him to step back, but the man objected.
“But, Your Majesty! He may only be pretending. The moment we let our guard down, he could attack!”
He reached for his sword.
“Are you unable to obey my command?”
The king’s voice was quiet, but carried overwhelming authority.
“S-Sir! My apologies!”
The man immediately lowered his head.
“It is fine. I understand that you were concerned for my safety. However, this young man can be considered the savior of our lives. We must treat him with proper courtesy. Besides, by calling me ‘Your Majesty,’ have you not just confirmed what he said?”
The man froze.
His face turned pale.
“What’s done is done. I forgive you. Now then, young man, how did you know that I was the king?”
Tenma obviously could not answer, “I found out using Appraisal.”
His mind raced desperately.
Then he noticed the crest painted on the carriage.
“F-From the crest. In this kingdom, only the heads of the royal family and the grand ducal family are permitted to use both a lion and a dragon in their coat of arms. At present there is only one grand ducal family, and I heard that its head is already quite elderly. So I assumed you must be the king.”
He spoke quickly, trying to cover up the truth.
It was knowledge he had learned while studying with his mother.
“There is no need to be so nervous. I see. You have studied well.”
Fortunately, the king misunderstood Tenma’s rapid speech as simple nervousness.
For now, the battle against the Orcs is finally over.
Just when you might have expected a potential heroine to appear, the person who showed up was the most important middle-aged man in the entire country, the king.
He is planned to become one of Tenma’s supporters in the future.
Though, of course, plans are not always certain.
I also forgot to explain the difference between Flight and Skyflight.
Flight is faster than Skyflight when moving in a straight line, but it is considerably inferior when it comes to freely moving up, down, left, and right.
Since Tenma often operates inside forests, he prefers using Skyflight.
Shiroumaru’s growth may seem somewhat slow compared with the size of his parents, but since he is a monster, please just assume that his growth rate works differently from that of normal animals.
Also, the number of bookmarks has now exceeded 100.
Thank you very much, everyone.
I hope you will continue supporting The Adventurer Reincarnated in Another World.
